Location

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel is about 18 miles from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and 10 miles from Laguardia National Airport (LGA). We do not recommend renting a car, as the location is very walkable and NYC has lots of public transit options, as well as taxis.

upgrade was not an upgrade at all

When we checked in we were told that we were upgraded from our suite to a place that was a former apartment from when the hotel took over. Although there was probably quite a bit more room the place was easily 30 years overdue for a renovation. Warn out wood flooring, small and oddly shaped bathroom, and threadbare carpet in the bedroom, and old curtains for starters. We were quite surprised since the web site said the hotel rooms were redone in the past 5 years. Historic hotels, like many of the Rosewood Hotels we've stayed at, are fantastic, elegant, very well maintained, and we enjoy staying in buildings with a past. But even the wonderful staff and great late night fun bar scene off the lobby really couldn't make up for the type of stay and experience we thought we bought in for.

Nice suite and location but not for me

This location is right off Central Park and a great launching spot for walks, food, museums. The suite was very nice, large, bright, well decorated. The hotel itself is not to my liking though. Lots of security people walking around (not friendly or helpful), no seating or visiting in the lobby area (I like hotels that have that), a heavy, sticky revolving front door to the hotel that is generally unattended (meaning they frequently don't help you with it). Food was not good. Nothing truly bad overall, just uninviting. Our room was not cleaned property.

Great experience - Great Food - Jazz - Drinks

Concierge at the hotel was amazing and took care of dinner reservations, finding us a table for some good music and overall took care of us.

Best hotel in NYC

My wife and I have traveled to NYC many times since 2018 and have enjoyed numerous hotels (including a few 5 star hotels) that we really enjoy as well. After staying at the Carlyle our expectations have been raised to a whole new level. The attention to detail that this hotel has is incredible. The perfect blend of modern decor and Art Deco charm in this suite is incredible. The bar in the hotel Bemelman’s is a NYC icon and the story and vibe is awesome and some of the trademarks of Bemelman’s like the gold leaf ceiling and wallpaper is replicated in the rooms along with the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. We’ll definitely stay here again.
