Location

Your best option is to fly into T. F. Green Airport (PVD) in Providence, which is about a 30-minute drive from The Vanderbilt. Delta, jetBlue, Southwest, United, and American Airlines all offer service here. If you can't find the connection you want, you may want to look into Boston Logan Airport (BOS), which is about a 1.5-hour drive away.

Your Destination Concierge can arrange car service from either airport, though we do recommend planning for your transportation more than 24 hours ahead of time. You'll likely want a rental car to explore Newport’s attractions. We recommend renting a car through club partner Avis. Gilded Age Glory , Modern Mindset - The Vanderbilt

By far, our stay at The Vanderbilt in Newport, R.I. was our most fabulous stateside stay yet. The property is stunning and the service Auberge Staff provide is second to none. My original booking was for 4 nights however I extended for a 5th because I truly did not want to leave! No detail was forgotten, every single member of the staff was beyond friendly, efficient and expeditious with our requests or answering questions. The on-site concierge Morgan went above and beyond to insure our stay was the very best from planning excursions in advance to making excellent recommendations and the best reservations, Morgan is 5 star! The rooms are expansive, luxurious yet comfortable and extremely well appointed. Dining on site is excellent. The valets are of the best I've ever experienced, anywhere. Management at Vanderbilt makes you feel like Family. I can't say enough about our experience here - Inspirato is extremely lucky to have this property offered in the portfolio. The Vanderbilt in Newport is more than a hotel, it is an EXPERIENCE!

A historical grande "dame" hotel

Great location with a nod to golden age decor with modern comfort. Attentive service . Great bar and breakfast room. Roof top terrace/ bar a must do. Incredible views.

Good location, lacking accommodations

Very well located near Thames Street and the Wharfs making walking around easy. The hotel decor, however, was not up to par with what we'd expect for Inspirato. It's an old converted mansion and the entry and shared spaces below are very dark/moody which I think is OK but perhaps not our style/liking. However, the rooms are a completely different style and really not very upscale. For instance, the dresser was an antique piece but frankly it was more than antique - the drawers were half falling off. There is a fine line between being antique and just being old and broken. Also, I have to say the staff and attention here were not up to par....they did not have things set up for us when we arrived...they were hard to get a hold of for arrangements, etc. and then they billed us incorrectly for the full amount of the stay despite my telling them twice that it was already pre-paid through Inspirato. The dining options on site were mediocre and service was also not great.

We did enjoy Newport activities such as the cliff walk, The Breakers mansion tour, a visit to The Lawn and Lighthouse at Castle Inn, and a ride on an Americas Cup Sailboat which were all fun.

Lobby areas were moody library vibes - cool but not our style.

The Breakers mansion tour was great - they even have a self-guided tour for kids that goes along with the adult tour

Views from the rooftop bar of Newport Yacht Club and Harbor were nice

Really enjoyed visiting and eating at The Lawn at Castle Inn - highly recommend

below what I would expect from Inspirato

The Vanderbilt is very old and I get that some people may find that charming, but the floors were uneven, the room decor was outdated with cheap furniture, outdated bathrooms and room AC units that were extremely loud. The staff appeared to be a bunch of inadequately trained kids. Attention to detail was missing and service was very poor. The hotel even sent us a 2nd bill for our stay, even though we paid through Inspirato. Food and drink very average. This experience is not what I would expect through Inspirato.

Vanderbilt Newport Needs Some TLC

As a huge Auberge fan, we were disappointed with our stay at the Vanderbilt. Pros: loved the staff and the location - easy to walk to great restaurants etc. Cons: unfortunately, the dated nature of the rooms far outweigh their charm. Our room's A/C sounded like a jumbo jet taking off - needless to say we didn't get the restful night sleep we wanted. Although we checked out after one night because of the less than ideal room, we loved Newport and highly recommend walking Cliff Walk, going on the Classic Car tour of Ocean Drive, and dinner at Clarke Cooke House. Also try to find Del's Soft Frozen Lemonade truck!!
