Across Inspirato’s portfolio of 300+ homes around the world there are accommodations for every taste. Some travelers may look for huge spaces, others might want a gourmet kitchen, and others are looking for a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
Travelers looking for all of the above—and even more—need look no further than Villa Pliniana, Inspirato’s astounding palazzo on the romantic shores of Lake Como, Italy. This is more than just a large home with every amenity one could need for the perfect vacation; it’s a journey into Italian history, the local culture, and unparalleled luxury.
Built in 1573 at the orders of the then-governor of Como, Villa Pliniana is named for the curious spring around which it was built. Despite being part of a lake, the water in the spring flows intermittently, like the tides of the ocean. This peculiarity led numerous scientists and researchers—including Leonardo da Vinci, if legend is to be believed—to study the spring.
In the ensuing centuries, the villa grew into a bona fide Lake Como landmark. Here, Inspirato members and guests can vacation like royalty: previous guests and owners have included prolific Italian composer Gioachino Rossini (whose grand piano, now restored, is still in the home), influential poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, multiple European monarchs and noble families, and Napoleon Bonaparte himself (rumored to have played on the billiards table that still exists in the villa).
But the home’s storied history is just one reason to stay there. Fully restored to its original glory, Villa Pliniana spans 15,000 square feet and includes amenities such as a private infinity-edge pool, on-site spa, 10 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and more. Inspirato members and guests staying here enjoy daily breakfast right in the home and, in true Italian style, daily aperitivo hour (similar to a happy hour)—both included with your reservation.
Villa Pliniana is travelers’ own private estate on the shores of Lake Como. Beyond its sprawling indoor space, the home is set on 18 private acres teeming with beautiful gardens and includes a golf cart for easily exploring the grounds. If guests want to get out—something we definitely recommend—they need only step out to their private dock and into a custom-made Riva boat (available upon request) and let the captain sail them away. The small comune of Torno is only 1 mile away, and the larger town of Como—full of restaurants, shopping, and museums—is 6 miles away.
Villa Pliniana is ideal for large groups, romantic getaways, and any traveler seeking an authentic, historic Italian experience. But it’s just one of the 900+ vacation options in the Inspirato Collection. Explore our full collection and get inspired to experience the world with Inspirato.
